Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake. [Victor Hugo]

Sleep. It’s easy to overlook the deeper things behind what we regard as the most primitive of human needs. But there is more. Our bodies were only created to sustain so much thought, work, and play at a time. And the simple act of resting our weary, worry-worn heads on a pillow and closing our eyes is an act of humility. An acknowledgement that we have reached the end of our own strength. An entrusting of all we hold dear to the One who stays awake.
